The modern world is amidst a period of crisis and change. More and more people and communities are aware of a strong need to establish new ways of relating with Nature and its resources, and new ways of interacting with diverse people and cultures. Old models based on control, oppression, and expansion are rapidly being seen not only as ineffective, but also destructive and dangerous. A new approach is called for, a more complex approach which would respect differences, value diversity, and be based on principles of dialogue, cooperation, and wholeness. We believe that one of our responsibilities as helping professionals is to develop and promote in our societies the values and skills that support this new approach.
We know from our professions as psychologists, social workers, and teachers that changes are possible. Human potentials for growth and wholeness are nurtured in relationships and through relationships. For this reason, we have chosen Relations as the topic of our conference. As the prerequisite as well as the instrument of our work, Relations, Encounter, and Dialogue will be the focus of our exploration at this professional conference.
Our conference will be interesting to a wide range of professionals, including psychologists and psychotherapists, social workers, teachers, medical doctors, managers of business, political scientists, environmentalists, philosophers, and anthropologists. People from various countries will come to participate in dozens of seminars, workshops, and dialogue groups focusing in many aspects of human relations. Our task is to provide participants with an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and skills that they can apply in their everyday work. The conference’s multidisciplinary approach and its system of topic tracks will enable everyone to find his/her areas of interest, meet others with similar or different views, and make new friends.
